Three SRJC faculty share how they record whiteboard presentations using apps called ShowMe and Doceri, a ViewSonic display panel, and the World Wide Whiteboard available in Canvas. With these tools, you can create hand-drawn lessons, presentations, and graphics and save them as images or video screencasts.

Physics faculty Saska Gjorgjievska and Chemistry faculty Andrea Chase share whiteboard videos they created with apps on their iPads. Spanish faculty Araceli Osorio shows how she used a ViewSonic display in the SRJC Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning to screen record an activity with her students.

SRJC Instructional Accessibility Specialist Corrine Haverinen demonstrates how to use the Universal Design Online Content Inspection Tool or UDOIT to identify accessibility issues in canvas courses from within Canvas. UDOIT will scan the course content, generate a report, and provide resources on how to address common accessibility issues.

Computer studies instructor Emily Hansen shows how she condenses her course in Canvas for the summer. First she imports content from a previous summer using the Import Course Content feature in Settings. She adjusts the due dates, selects the content to import, and then deletes unwanted Announcements. Then she condenses her content in Modules.

In this 10-minute video, SRJC faculty Scott Snyder invited us to his face-to-face Emergency Medical Technician class in which he uses case-based learning. 

  • First, he explains why he "flipped" his class by replacing lectures with problem-solving activities. 
  • Then, he shares his resources in Canvas that students access before each class to prepare for the hands-on work. 
  • He also describes how he facilitates in-class activities with the help of volunteer TAs, including former students who have formed a culture of enthusiasm for case-based learning.

In this 9-minute video, SRJC Math faculty Dr. Jennifer Carlin-Goldberg shows how she uses Canvas Commons to import sample course shells with free OpenStax content produced by and aligned with the California Community Colleges Online Education Initiative's course design standards. Jennifer also gives us a tour of her hybrid Statistics class in Canvas and explains how she integrated OpenStax content with her own materials along with shared quizzes and YouTube videos designed to go with the OpenStax textbook. In this 5-minute video, our Canvas System Administrator, Liko Puha, shows faculty how to use the Canvas Cross-listing tool to:

  • instantly cross-list multiple sections of the same course and
  • undo the cross-list, if a course gets cancelled.

You'll also learn how to submit a form for special cases.
