Testimonial from Public Safety instructor Joanie Dybach: "Although originally I was not happy about having more things added to my already overflowing plate, this course was invaluable to me. Not only did I gain a substantial amount of knowledge about Canvas, what I learned actually simplified my life by showing me more efficient ways to teach on Canvas and more effective ways to deliver materials to the students."

Online Special Expertise

Use this link to enroll in our Online Special Expertise certificate training course by September 25, 2017, to join a cohort of your peers to complete the certificate in Canvas in six weeks. The online course will run from September 25th to November 6th. Required activities each week will have Monday afternoon deadlines, and are estimated to take 2-3 hours to complete per week. On Fridays, we will offer optional “live” training sessions, both in-person and remotely in Zoom, to accompany the online lessons in Canvas. The course objectives and content can be previewed in Canvas. To join the next session of the course starting November 6, 2017, please use the Online Special Expertise enrollment form to receive an invitation and reminder.

Board Policy 3.28P requires all instructors who teach online to “acquire and maintain online special expertise for online and hybrid course delivery.” Departments may require the Online Special Expertise certificate or file a Department-Specified Provision form with AFA; see a list of departments with forms on file.

Faculty can claim up to 12 hours of FLEX credit as well as PGI credit for the Online Special Expertise certificate training; see more information below. If you prefer in-person training, check the Canvas Training Sign Up page for our “Two-Day Bootcamp to Get Your Certificate.”
